POWERPOP TO THE PEOPLE VOL 5 (2007)

ZS1 + ZS2 (567 mb)
ZS (188 mb)
The fifth volume of "Powerpop To The People " includes some bands made available on previous full-length albums posts. A few other ones are well known names. The "Flamin' Groovies" song is from the Bucketfull of Brains flexi released four years before its appearance on the "Step Up" CD. Robyn Hitchcock is also featured with a rare german version of "Alright Yeah", this song was only available on a BOB flexi. A couple of songs are lifted from the Snap!! tapes (The "Grip Weeds" song is an outtake from "The House Of Vibes" sessions). "Rollercoaster" and "The Rosebuds" are two australian bands connected to the Chevelles. "Blown" is an outfit led by Nick Rudd (Turning Curious). The "Rave-ups" song is a b side of the 12" Single. The "Three Hour Tour" track is from the first album, the song was hidden at the end of the first album, (as well two other songs), but the weird thing is the song was played backwards on the CD (so i had to reverse the track with soundforge).

Songs
Choo Choo Train (High) / Beat Angels (Scaredy Cat) / The Grip Weeds (Be Like You) / Flamin' Groovies (Thanx John) / The Real Impossibles (Turn My World) / Woofing Cookies (Plain Truth) / The Lears (Coming Home Today) / The Bam Balams (10.000 Miles) (A Espana) / The Silent Blue (A Mind Not Her Own) / Cement Trampoline (Pushing The Panic Button) / Hector Penalosa (The Voice) / The Summer Suns (Thank You Holly) / Rollercoaster (Tartan Dress) / The Rosebuds (Honey Your My One) / The Rainyard (What's It Worth) / Blown (A Lesson Learned) / The Rave-Ups (Big White River) / The Woods (Chain My Heart) / Todd Newman (That's Just Me) / Walter Clevenger (Kimberley) / The Pursuit Of Happiness (I Like You) / The Finns (Whatever You Want) / Martin Luther Lennon (Emily) / Three Hour Tour (Come Back Home) / The Cavedogs (III) / Nyack (I'm Your Star) / Robyn Hitchcock (Alright, Yeah) (german version)

POWERPOP TO THE PEOPLE VOL 3 (1977-1982)

ZS1 + ZS2 (552 mb)

ZS (186 mb)

This new volume of Powerpop To the People focuses on the British Empire, except for Jerry Nolan who recorded this gem of a single in Sweden with local musicians helped out by Sylvain Sylvain. The London Cowboys dedicated their LP to the New-York Dolls. Brian Briggs is an Australian born musician produced by Ian Kimmet of Jook fame. I have no info about Michael O'Brien and The Balls. Wreckless Eric' s cover of Crying Waiting Hoping was released as a single but was not on his Best Of. If you're familiar with this blog, you might already know the Zones, Tonight, Sussex or Stride & Plain.
The Fabulous Poodles released 2 excellent LP's and got a CD Best Of reissue. The Kursaal Flyers' song was covered by The Searchers on their Love Melodies album while their own Little Bit Of Heaven was not included on the CD reissue of their Sire Sessions. Maybe you know The Lookalikes cause they had one song on The Shake Some Action Vol3. Howard Werth is the former Audience leader and is backed by the Rockpile/Rumour gang. Mark Andrews was produced by Simon Boswell of Advertising. Pat Collier released 3 singles with The Boyfriends and became a famous producer. The Stukas released two singles, (this one was on Chiswick) and Raggy Lewis formed later The Autographs. Shake's Jo Callis had then left The Rezillos. TV21 single was released on Demon Records and produced by Troy Tate (Teardrop Explodes). Finally the Rubbish single talks about NW3 4JR, an upper side of London.

POWERPOP TO THE PEOPLE VOL 4 (1979-1993)

ZS1 + ZS2 (576 mb)

ZS (183 mb)

Powerpop To the People is back again. 25 bands, 25 songs you may know or not, but 25 songs with plenty of hooks. Roy Loney's opening is from the Contents Under Pressure LP, (you know... the Roy Loney album with synths...). Of course you all know the Full Time Men were Keith Streng and Peter Buck for this 12" EP. Though their drummer Alan Powell (ex-Tanz Der Youth) was coming from England, Jo Allen & The Shapes were from San Francisco, just like the Yanks were from the Bay Area, and the Peter Case acoustic version is from a B.O.B flexi, The Rubinoos' King Youth is from the Bomb Shelter CD (a very limited release). The Alley Cats released two LP's before switching their name to The Zarkons. Read comments for more details. Both links in title.

POWERPOP TO THE PEOPLE VOL 1 (1970-1986)

ZS1 + ZS2 (564 mb)

ZS (187 mb)
Hello Powerpop criminals, here's an exclusive compilation specially made for all the bloggers. This is the first volume - i sincerely hope you'll like it, and i'm waiting for your comments about it if you want more. Most of the bands on the volume are rather well known but some newies have been incorporated.
Prettiest Girl (Club Wow) is the A side single of the Franck Secich 80's combo. Shaun Cassidy's cover of the Who was produced by Rundgren while Utopia is the backing band. 20/20's song was first released on the second edition of the Sex Trap album (the red one). Steve Burdick started off on drums with The Wind (still collaborating as Tan Sleeve], then went on to lead his own band, The Answer. The Tearaways were founded in 1980. and the band was re-formed in 1990 with Greg, Jesse and Perry after leaving The Volcanoes, they are still very active today. The Jeff Hill Band came together in September 1977 and released one single for Chiswick. Peter Holsapple single was released on the Car label. The Raspberries' demo song was intended to be on the Capitol "Best Of" which was never released. The Dwight Twilley Band single was released in France only, while the Phil Seymour song is a demo recorded with Chris Spedding. The Romantics side 2 of their first single was released on Spider Records. The Atlantics were from Boston and have a CD of rarities available through Not Lame. The Razz single, penned by Tommy Keene who was also playing guitar on it, was covered by the Slickee Boys on the Fashionably Late LP. Just Water sole LP was released before their Stiff single. Just Boys fronted by Terry Carolan came from Florida and only released this beautifully packaged single, their sound reminds me a lot of the Spinning Jennies, but 20 years earlier (you can listen to more Just Boys stuff here). Marc Thor is famous for his contribution to the Boston Rat album. Finally, DFX2 a San Diego quartet sound like the Del Fuegos. See comments for details

Hello again, here's the second compilation specially made for all the bloggers. 24 songs more or less well known from all of us. The opening cut was an unreleased Club Wow song "Norman Green". The Jack & The Beanstalk song is from a french 7" EP, while Donny Denim is a side project from two Fevers members. Of course , you know the Sparrows were the Vandalias before they changed their name. The Walter Clevenger track was available on his out-of-print first limited edition Tape. The demo of Daggers of Justice was first released on the "What A Nice Way To Turn 17" freebie LP. I also included a few BOB freebies (flexis) with some rare songs (Redd Kross, Matthew Sweet and Speedboat). The Imperial Drag demo (1994) was intended for the unreleased second album. Darian's cover of the Brian Wilson classic was only available on a french 7". The Posies song is from a Spanish single which contains versions of songs that were originally intended for the unreleased Eclipse album. Michael Quercio can be heard twice - one with the Permament Green Light's last offering while the rare Three O'Clock's I Go Wild was produced by Don Gehman for the soundtrack of a lost 80's movie. The Playmates were from Sweden. The version of Paul Collins' song is different from the one that can be heard on his One Night (1988) album. And finally Twiggy's Todd Fletcher is now with June & The Exit Wounds. See comments.
