10 Years Later...or The Return of The Raiders

VARIOUS - RAIDERS OF THE LOST HOOK Vol. 5 (2020)
While i was completing the upload of the 8 volumes of the SSA compilations, i was thinking about the four volumes of "Raiders Of The Lost Hook" that i made 10 years ago. And browsing around, it occured to me that those compilations were quite popular on some p2p sites. Of course, plenty of compilations of the genre exist (Yellow Pills Prefill, DIY Rhino, Home Runs, Powerpearls, SSA and more), but it was a challenge for me to make a new volume some 10 years later, trying of course to include songs that were not featured on the famous ones. Most of the Power Pop fans will recognize some of the songs as they were part of previous anthologies. But, i really think that Raiders Of The Lost Hook Vol. 5 (1971-1985) is a solid collection of songs from a time full of innocence and fun, totally different from the current days we're now living.

So, it's my pleasure to share this new volume of strong melodies, thoughtful lyrics, romantic innocence and rock-candy guitars, here comes the search for the great pop hook.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST HOOK (re-up) (2008-2010)
In 1978, Greg Shaw wrote in the Power Pop special issue of Bomp: "Any way you look at it, Power Pop began with the Who (...and the Easybeats...). Their approach to songwriting was solidly pop - every song was short, catchy, hook-filled, built on bright, uplifting major chords, and they never shied away from those all-important "la la la's".

These compilations were assembled between 2008 and 2010, four volumes were posted on PPC and are now available again due to some requests for those long lost gems.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST HOOK  Vol. 1 (2008)

In 1978, Greg Shaw wrote in the Powerpop special issue of Bomp: "Any way you look at it, Powerpop began with the Who (...and the Easybeats...). Their approach to songwriting was solidly pop - every song was short, catchy, hook-filled, built on bright, uplifting major chords, and they never shied away from those all-important "la la la's".
All the bands featured in the first volume of this new collection share this "undying search for the great pop hook". Some of them found "the near perfect hook", just for one song, one EP or even an album, and then lost it and never found it again. But the songs remain short, hook-filled and catchy. Here are "The Raiders of the Lost Hook". A 2008 PPC exclusive.

Special note : Congratulations to the first readers able to name the artist (real name and alias) featured on the inside of the booklet.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST HOOK - VOL 4 (2010)

In 1978, Greg Shaw wrote in the Powerpop special issue of Bomp: "Any way you look at it, Powerpop began with the Who (...and the Easybeats...). Their approach to songwriting was solidly pop - every song was short, catchy, hook-filled, built on bright, uplifting major chords, and they never shied away from those all-important "la la la's".

After the 3rd volume (2008!!!, it was a long long time ago) focusing on 90's power pop gems, this fourth volume compiles some of the best of the 70's-80's genre era, some bands might be new to you, but the hooks are here and stand the test of time.
