THE PRANKS - THE WARNER DEMOS COLLECTION (1979)
The Pranks were a Santa Barbara band led by Jeffrey Foskett and Randell Kirsch. Circa '74, Jeffrey Foskett first played in a band named Reverie Rhythm Rockers. Randell Kirsch joined him in 1975 and suggested to play originals instead of only covers. Foskett on bass guitar and Kirsch on lead. In fact, they were about to be signed by Warners but that deal never took place because the major label gave eventually Marshall Crenshaw preference over The Pranks. Soon Foskett was invited to tour with the Beach Boys, something he did for the next ten years or so. Too bad! because the band had great originals which tilted towards the classic-retro (perfectly assimilated) sound of the power pop spectrum, with a spontaneous emphasis on Merseybeat and a snappy `79 approach. "Tell Me", "Ab", "Dance Floor", "I Won't Make You Cry", "I Don't Want To Lose The Feeling", "Next Time" would have deserved to be considered as genuine pop standards. Twenty five years later, the Pranks stuff is still in the vaults, only a couple of songs can be heard on official compilations. (Notes by bubblegumthepunk).
More info about Jeffrey Foskett and Randell Kirsch
Special notes : The songs have been transferred either from a master tape or a 1st generation tape (i'm not sure) to a CD-R, i got a copy of that CD-R , then i did the artwork inspired by a famous californian legend.

Thanks much for this GRAT blog. Any chance of having the LP Susan-"Falling In Love Again"?
Angelo,
This is a really great gift. I was looking for this album for a long long time.
Many thanks for this surprise.
This one is a real find! I need to find more of them. I have always enjoyed Jeffrey Foskett's work.
Thanks a lot. Wonderful

Did you know that 3/4th of Susan became the Blackhearts (of Joan Jett and the...)?
It is uncanny how much these songs by the Pranks (Apetopia / S.O.B./ No Love/ Get Set) sound like The Greenberry Woods.
Compare these to "Rapple Dapple" and "Big Money Item" by GW. Separated by more than a decade but played side by side you could say they were the same band.
Thanks for the ryp, great stuff
Why does it ask for a password to open the file? Where do I get the password?
Hi there,
Only have tracks 13-23. Can't seem to find the first 12. Could you please upload?
Many thanks.
I found both parts in title. Doh!
Thanks very much. Keep up the good work... Shake it Up!
Reza
PS - Do you take requests? I was wondering if you had anything by Scott Mccarl or Tommy Hoehn.
Cheers
Can someone please re-upload part 2 please? I don't want to lose this feeling that I could listen to more music by The Pranks!
angelo,-- I second that. Part 2 of this needs a reload. Dead link. You'd have my undying thanks for doing so. By the way, Part 1 (songs 1-12) still works. Thanks again.
Anyone out there know where I can buy a copy of Randell Kirsch's "Near Life Experience?" I've been searching for this for years and it's simply impossible to buy anywhere, not iTunes, not Amazon, and it never shows up on eBay. I'm desperate.
