Following a few comments about ZS, one of which was really rude on Day 9, i've decided to stop the 2020 AWoS.
This morning, i made a test and i've downloaded one file. The speed on my side was between 700 kb/s and 1mb/s (it means i got the 440 mb file in less than 10 minutes), an OK speed for me as the maximum download speed from my Internet Provider is around 2mb/s.
Just for info, my maximum upload speed is 120 kb/s, so you can calculate how long it takes to upload a 440mb file. Over the years, I've decided to share the files in FLAC, even though it was so long to upload them, i never complained about that and ZS was the best option for all the readers, parallel downloads, no need to be registered and an OK speed, no wait between two downloads.

I read the comment, and yes, it was rude, as well as stupid and ungrateful. Some people think it's all about THEM. Me, I have a DSL connection and my best download speed pulls at around 100/kps, and I think ZS is one of the best hosts out there... no captcha, no wait between downloads, and parallel downloads allowed. Also, they don't engage in wholesale deletion of masses of files like so many hosts have done through the years. What's not to love? Anyway, thanks for again putting together an AWOS, even an abbreviated one. I was just thinking yesterday that music downloading is one of the miracles of our time, and the Advent Wall is something I look forward to every year. Of course, the ongoing existence of PPC is a year-long gift and your work and generosity are always appreciated, Angelo. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Completely understandable but a matter of real regret. Your daily gifts in the run up to Christmas have been a great annual pleasure for many years now. And particularly welcome this year especially.
But when recipients of your generosity respond with the equivalent of a beggar saying is that all you’re giving me you mean bastard, who can blame you for saying enough is enough.

We know zippy has been strange the last week and many in europe having to us vpn to use their service now, but as you said they have always been fast to download for me and you can download more than one file at a time which for me i important.

Sorry people were so rude. I was finding that zippyshare was taking a really long time, but if I didn't want to wait I either tried again or bailed. You do a lot of work to give everyone great music and surprises. I can't believe people have been so incredibly rude when they're getting something for free. (I can believe it, but you know what I mean.)

If my comment yesterday in any way made you feel that your efforts were unappreciated I truly and humbly apologize - that was certainly never my intention. Your posts over this past week and a half have been wonderful, especially the Gary Valentine collection. So I am humbly asking you to ignore that nasty jerk and continue your December gifts to all of us. And if you can't bring yourself to do so, please accept my gratitude for the music you've given us thus far.

I'm sorry to hear of your decision. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I had the same issue (at first), and it turns out that it coincided with the lack of ipv6 protocol running on my PC. I added it, rebooted, and then things miraculously began to work.
I'm just throwing this out there, since I was having some download issues as well. Maybe that will help some other people. If it's related to IPv6, then the change was done on their side, and you have to make your own PCs compatible.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Angelo, I read the comment on Day 9 that you are referring to. I'm so sorry you had to endure that kind of feedback. Your posts are fantastic and you are doing it out of the goodness of your heart. I appreciate what you are doing and really enjoying the posts. All of your Dec posts have been new finds for me and while ZS is a little slow, I've been able to leave it running in background while I do other things.

Angelo, don't let one Grinch ruin your Christmas! For what it's worth, in my case, ZS can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to half an hour, depending on the time of day. And if something takes a long time to download... I go do other stuff! I don't just sit there and stare at my browser, cursing the blog owner under my breath.
I'm not trying to boost your spirits because I get free stuff... I'm hoping you don't let grumps tarnish your enjoyment of your blog.

All these folks complaining about Zippyshare: Install Privacy Badger and an ad blockers like uBlock Origin (not AdBlock or AdBlock Plus!)--yes, install both; just trust me.
Once you click to download a file from Zippyshare, open a new tab & immediately close the Zippyshare tab. Doing this, I haven't had any problems downloading these files.

Don't let people get you down when you offer something like this for nothing but time on their end to download things. You have no control over whether or not a service is running fast or not, so people shouldn't worry about it. Sheesh.

My only complaint is that you don´t post as much stuff as you used to, but hey, I understand one has to make a living doing other things. As I said, I have been following your uploads for a long time, and come Christmas time I´m always looking forward to your fabulous daily offerings. There´s so much music and bands and albums I´ve come to know and enjoy through you. So all in all, please continue with what you are doing. You are doing a phenomenal job and you shouldn´t let other people tell you any different. If that guy who made you that comment knows so much about bands as he says he does, he can set up his own blog or shut up about it. We don´t need people like him. What we need is people like you, to give us an education (on good music), so once again, don´t stop what you are doing because all over the world there are people like me, who understand and appreciate the big job you are doing and the big effort something like that requires.

I'm in the US...Zippy has worked well here for me. Other options that seem fast and reliable are pixeldrain, imagenetz (sp?) and mediafire, if any of the options are available and affordable to you. Thanks for all the fizzy, poppy goodness you share!

I have absolutely no problem with zippyshare. Not sure what's up with the other downloaders, but my guess is the connection problems are probably due to the fact that zippyshare is banned in their country and they aren't using a VPN. Get with 2020, people...a VPN is a necessity.
As for slowness of download, the rude shithead on the 9th is probably still using dial-up AOL. I prefer FLAC and thanks for providing it. I have no issue downloading it at all.

I have looked forward to this (and Boxing Day) every year for many years. Your work is greatly appreciated. It's such a shame that there is inevitably one ignorant moron out there who clearly has no consideration for others. That they do not appreciate the efforts of those who post great music or have any awareness of how repulsive they are or indeed how their actions ruin things for everybody else is a testament to their lack of character not anyone else's. It's a great shame albeit perhaps understandable that you have decided to suspend your postings for now but thank you so much for those you have already posted. This is always a great site and any duplication would not dissuade me from regularly visiting it
For myself, I have no problems with Zippy despite living in a country where it is no longer immediately available (there are well known ways around it) and having just upgraded my broadband all I can say is that my download speeds are great not least with Zippy! From what I can see there is no systemic problem with Zippy although they did have a security certificate issue a few days back. If people are having issues then they are likely localised and could be caused by any number of issues.
So all I can say is once again thank you for all your efforts, I hope you change your mind and keep posting your excellent selections and whether you do or not have and excellent and very Merry Christmas!

I just read the comment you referred to and I understand and respect your decision. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and hope you might reconsider.
I've been thinking about creation vs destruction recently and am struck by how difficult it can be to create something, such as the community you've worked to build up here, and how easily one a$$hole can destroy it (or at least put a big dent in it).

I'm so sorry to hear someone's been complaining about Zippyshare. I've looked forward to AWoS for years,and they've always been a great way to wrap it all up. I know most of us appreciate the time and thought you put into it. And it would never even occur to me to complain to you about the way you do it or the file service you use. As far as I recall, ZS was one of the fastest right up until a couple of weeks ago. I'm thinking it's more on worldwide internet usage (traffic) that's making ZS come to a crawl at times. Or maybe it is on their end, I don't know. I would wait it out until the new year and see how it goes. Otherwise, if you're concerned about speed or grumpy downloaders, mega.nz (I think that's what it's called) is still fast.
Anyway, people are always going to complain. I wouldn't let it get you down. I'm sure the majority of your regulars are very appreciated for what you've been doing, and that alone should overcome the negativity.

I was having issues, when depending on time of day, it might take a couple of hours or it would drop out but I accepted that and just tried again until it worked.
I had an mp3 converter so FLAC was ok too.
ZS was ok too because I found "The Unarchiver" did the job for that.

Regarding the comments, you will always get these type of annoying people that will not be happy whatever you do. In my view, it is better not to pay any attention to them. I understand that it is very discouraging to receive these messages after your good work.
Zippyshare works well with me. Sometimes it takes a lot of time to download but most of the time it is quick enough. And the most important thing: it allows parallel downloads! This is the best advantage for me.
Again, thank you very much for all your uploads and I will understand whatever your final decision will be.

Very sorry to hear you have stopped the christmas uploads due to some very ungrateful persons. I personally have had no problems with the filehoster you have chosen, on the contrary, from my point of view it has been a perfect choice (I'm in Europe).
