UK Version vs. US Version

 THE RECORDS

SHADES IN BED (UK 1979) + THE RECORDS (US 1979)

The first Records album "Shades In Bed" was released in the UK with a 12" bonus of 4 covers, and with a new recording of the single "Starry Eyes" produced by Robert John Lange.

In the USA, Virgin first decided to change the title to the eponymous "The Records" and the sleeve (maybe too offensive for the US eyes). They also replaced the UK LP version of "Starry Eyes"with the Will Birch produced UK single version. Finally they also changed the track sequence.

The album was reissued in 2002 with a new artwork (the inner sleeve of the UK edition) with bonus tracks (the UK singles + plus a remix of "Teenarama" by Craig Leon who was hired to produce the follow-up "Crashes"

I've also included the original NME review by Nick Kent, plus a NME full feature about The Records written by Max Bell who was at the time the Power Pop specialist in the UK.

I have never even seen the UK version of their first album so I am looking forward to hearing it. Thank you.

Many thanks for sharing The Records wonderful stuff in recent days. It makes me wish it was still 1979, but of course back then many people were longing for the past, too! Blissful nostalgia, warm like a comforting blanket
