THE FEELIES - BARSTOOL BLUES [CDS] (1990)

After a 19 year break, the Feelies are back with "Here Before" an album of all new original material on Bar/None Records.

To celebrate this release, here's the rare single of "Barstool Blues" which was offered as a free bonus with "Time of The Witness" by a french record store. (Only 2000 were made.)

THE ELVIS BROTHERS - NOW DIG THIS (1992)
Now Dig This (359 mb)

Losing their major-label contract and spending the better part of a decade playing Chicago-area clubs without making a record didn't blow any of the fizz out of the band's sails: "Now Dig This" emerges from the same wellspring of spirited tunefulness. There's little evidence of the band's silly streak, but the best songs here are otherwise as appealing as any in the trio's past. "Valentine," "Strangelove," "Dreamland" and "Next Time I Fall in Love" all recall aspects of the 1965 Beatles, but with crisp modern energy and Midwestern flair. Meanwhile, "I've Got Skies for Her" and "Peace of Mind" try on a psychedelic rock frock. Trouser Press

THE PRODUCERS - THE PRODUCERS / MAKE THE HEAT (2000)

Hailing from Atlanta, The Producers released released two albums for the Portrait label, "The Producers" (1981) and "You Make the Heat" (1982) propelling "What She Does To Me" onto the national Billboard Magazine singles charts. "What's He Got" had some popularity as a music video but did not chart. They toured extensively opening for Cheap Trick, and The Motels. "She Sheila" from their second album was a popular MTV video. Despite this success, Portrait Records dropped the band after only two albums. In 2000, the first two Producers albums were reissued on CD as a two-fer. The CD is now long out-of-print and is fetching silly prices.

They also released "Run For Your Life" in 1985 on an indie label. Then regaining a major label contract in the late 1980s with MCA Records and recorded what was to be their fourth album, "Coelacanth", but the band was one of several dropped in a 1989 label purge at MCA before the album could be released. "Coelacanth" was finally released in 2001.

BRINSLEY SCHWARZ - HENS' TEETH (1998)

"Hen's Teeth" is a bit of a godsend for longtime Brinsley Schwarz collectors, gathering all of the group's non-LP singles - including the first singles released when the band was a Swinging London pop combo called Kippington Lodge - plus singles the group released under aliases. As the Hitters, they released the reggae single "Hypocrite," complete with the dub "Version" on the flip. As the Knees and Limelight, they released 45s of Beatles covers. All this is interesting, fun trivia, but the true meat of the collection lies in the Kippington Lodge material and the official non-LP Brinsley tunes. Kippington Lodge may not be earth-shattering and the band is quite derivative, borrowing heavily from psychedelic British pop, in particular the Beatles and early Yes. A terrific, necessary compilation.
