DREAMS SO REAL - FATHER'S HOUSE (1986)

The trio consisted of chief songwriter Barry Marler on lead vocals and guitar, Trent Allen on backing vocals and bass, and Drew Worsham on drums. Forming in 1983 when its members met in an Athens record store, their debut single, "Everywhere Girl", came out in 1985 and was produced by Peter Buck of R.E.M.. Buck also produced their first full-length album, 1986's Father's House. The band gained a bit more exposure through the inclusion of their song "Golden" in Athens, GA. Inside/Out, a rock documentary on their hometown music scene. With the success of R.E.M., the Athens scene, and other college radio-friendly bands, Dreams So Real was signed to Arista Records and released Rough Night in Jericho in 1988. The title track earned some success, reaching #28 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart and receiving some MTV airplay. The album would also reach the Billboard Hot 200, peaking at #150. The 1990 follow-up album, Gloryline, met with less success both critically and commercially. Soon after, Arista dropped the band and Dreams So Real soon drifted apart. As a kind of parting gift, the band released a collection of outtakes, rarities and B-sides titled Nocturnal Omissions, made available through their fan-club mailing list. In 2003, Worsham was shot in the head by a man who was reported to be his girlfriend's ex boyfriend. (wikipedia)

Thanks a ton. One of those "legendary" hard-to-find recordings that actually lives up to the legend.

Now does anyone have that "Everywhere Girl" single?

This is a phenomenal upload! Great sound, however track 6, "Maybe I'll Go Today" had a couple of skips in it. Can we get a re-upload at some point?

sorry about that, but you're damn right - my fault - new sharebee link on post - thx for telling

When I bought this album used many, many moons ago I was fortunate enough to get home and find the "Everywhere Girl" 45 tucked away inside the jacket. I've always assumed that the album's previous owner tucked it away in there, either intentional or by accident.

In any case, "Everywhere Girl" is one of my all-time favorites. While I've always enjoyed Father's House, I don't think anything on the album comes close to the debut 45.

Go here for an MP3 of "Everywhere Girl" along with some other REM-inspired tracks: http://www.littlehits.com/archives/2005_04_24_index.html

Thanks for all the additional information. Digging on my own I found the myspace with the other LP's and the very good little hits page.

Thanks for helping.

Ace

P.S. By the way, I really like this. I had one of their later LP's but it was not as good. One of my recommendations for similar greatness would include the Primitons.

Good call on the Primitons. Their debut self-titled EP is a huge favorite in our household and it doesn't have a bad track on it. Great production work by Mitch Easter as well. Highly recommended!

check previous posts if you want some Primitons

Yup , Drew was shot in the eye and his girlfriend was killed. Sad stuff.
I live in Athens and a comedian friend of mine saw Drew and thought it was a joke that he was wearing an eye patch. I was around Halloween. Drew told him what happened. He said he actually shat out the bullet framents because he swallowed them. My friend was pretty mortified.
I see Barry around too.

This is an amazing site guys!

Everybody here should check out Athens own The Glands ( 2nd album ). You'll all be floored. Power Pop a la Twilley/Petty . Find it on double vinyl for extra songs!

Oh my goodness... this made my day when I found this today. This album was HUGE for me in the late 80s when I was, yes, "drifting" and living at "father's house" for a while while I figured out what to do. I once took a little road trip alone thru the north Georgia mountains with this and the dB's "The Sound Of Music" as the sole soundtrack, and this DSR lp in particular -- esp "Maybe I'll Go Today" -- somehow brought all my confusion at the time into focus and helped me move on out, get a decent first job, and get started with life after college.

Thanks DSR for making this album, and thanks PPC for making a digital copy available here! I've had the vinyl for years but this will let me iPod it. Thanks!
