THE LEOPARDS - KANSAS CITY SLICKERS (1977)
The album has now officially been re-issued on vinyl and is available at singsingrecords.com
Links removed.
Hailing from Kansas City (Kansas), The Leopards were Dennis Pash (guitar, vocals), James Bordy (guitar), Ross Inden (bass, vocals), and Dennis Bouch (drums), they self released 3 singles on their label Moon records before releasing this very rare and most sought after LP. On first listen, you'd swear that this 1977 indie album from Kansas City, Kansas is Muswell Hillbillies-era Kinks — and on second and third listen, as well. This talented foursome not only perfectly re-creates the Kinks' klassic sound (complete with a spot-on Ray Davies vocal impression by main Leopard Dennis Pash), they also turn out originals that subtly rewrite various Kinks tunes without ever resorting to obvious lifts. Genius. Trouser Press
Special info: This is a brand new rip of the original LP with full artwork. I got the audio files and the scans from two "amic" and "ami" (both are foreign words for friends). I worked just a little on the audio part and i stitched the parts of the scans. The rip is available in 320 mp3 (click on the title) and lossless format.
FLAC: The Leopards
Songs
Road To Jamaica / Mind Of My Own / Dancing In The Snow / 57 Chewy / Bugle Boy / I Wonder If I'll Ever See You Again / Recess / It Must Be Love / I'm On My Way / Raggedy Andy Raggedy Ann / Summer's Gone

Thank you very much for this masterpiece in flac format. Cheers from Spain.
Thank you so much!
I was wondering if this was the same band that released "Magic Still Exists" on VOXX in 1987...and YES! it is...wonderful!!!
An outstanding band...does anyone know other releases between 1977 and 1987?
you can read more about the Leopards on the excellent blog "Beat Garage Pop"

Thanks for this...and getting back to posting albums !!...Mikel
Good work! Thanks a lot
An unbelievably great album! Honestly I have heard tons and this lives up to the rep.
When I finally started looking for rarities online, this was #1 on my list. I finally found it but in a somewhat diminished state. Looking forward to hearing this rip.
Thanks a zillion.

Thank you !

Never heard this. But if what everybody here says is true, I think I'm gonna like it
I love this album. I ripped both Leopard LPs some time ago so I can provide you with "Magic Still Exists" on Flac if you want me to. It's even better than "Kansas...", and the sound is excellent. Maybe this way I can pay somehow for all the great stuff I've downloaded from this blog...

hello Angelo, thanks for talk about us!
We, like you, like everybody else LOVE THE LEOPARDSSSSSSSSSS
this is one of my holy grail albums, having heard dancing in the snow in the 70's and never knowing if the Leopards had an album, much thanks
I hear definite elements of The Last, especially L.A. Explosion as well as the Kinks
I just discovered your "Leopards - Kansas city Slickers" post yesterday, and have already listened to the album at least half a dozen times (something I have rarely ever done). I bought the original vinyl back in 1978 based on a review I had read somewhere, and marveled at the songwriting craft and the group's unique ability to distill the basic essence of 60s/70s Kinks into a sound of their own. Until yesterday, I had literally forgotten the Leopards for at least 15 years, lost in the mass of my 3500 LP collection (sadly, now in storage) and CD count topping 5000. Thank you so much for bringing back for me the music, the memories -- and the magic.
I remember what I thought it was the first The Leopards album in the 80s...and actually never realized they went back such a long time.
This one is much better for me, so much like the Kinks that is uncanny!
the "Magic..." album suffers from 80s production, to these ears not as good as this and actually you can tell is not the Kinks...it's dead obvious, while here...you could be fooled!
